The Boeing C-17 Globemaster III, to give it its full name, entered service with the RAF in 2001. Its role within the Armed Forces is to provide a 'strategic heavy-lift and out-sized loads' carrying capability, although it is highly flexible and can be used for passengers and AeroMed missions, too.rnI was keen to find out more about the aircraft and was invited on a trainingrnmission at RAF Brize Norton. Normal task operating crew consists of two pilots and an air loadmaster, who has a work station downstairs in the freight bay from which he can control all the cargo compartment systems, including ramp and door, pallet locks, handling systems, emergency exits and controls.
