A little story of three elations-do stay with me; vour profession needs you to. A few years ago, because of a bad back, I lost my career after some 40 years. It happens.And because of all the hard work of so many dedicated BALPA representatives over the years, I am financially half fortunate. I can fly light aircraft on a Class 2 and I have had the good fortune to regain an instrument rating. What a sense of elation! In 2008 I was also given the chance to go up in a glider,thanksto my long-suffering wife. Finding out what I did not know came as a shock, and having to learn over again was hard. Do try it. Last week I was sent solo - my scream of joy was heard in Oxford.
