There are many aviators who, having had an interesting, even adventurous, flying career would have plenty of material with which to write a book. Most of us do not write that book, often for one very good reason - we have never kept a diary.Thus all those lovely stories are only a part of'unreliable memoirs'. Trevor Vellacott is different. He did keep a diary and thus this book is based on facts not just memories. He also had a most interesting, not to say at times risky, flying career and it makes an interesting book. Starting as an engineering apprentice, he managed to stretch his meagre wages sufficiently to learn to fly to PPL standard.
