The BALPA Accident Investigation Group (AIG) has been studying the AF447 stalling accident of two years ago. At an IFALPA meeting in Belgrade last summer a presentation was made by a test pilot. It was noted that the critical (stalling) angle of attack reduces significantly at high Mach number, which of course is normally also at high altitude. I didn't know this - I was taught that critical angle of attack (AOA) didn't change. 1 his is true for increased wing loading, such as during aerobatics, but not for high Mach number.
