The Government climb-down over compulsory ID cards for airport workers is the first piece of good news in an otherwise bleak outlook, filled in recent months by the mysterious loss of the Air France Airbus A330 and the crash of the Yemenia Airbus A_(310). Even the Boeing 787 Dreamliner seems unable to make its long-overdue maiden flight to lift aviation's collective spirit. Closer to home we see British Airways crews being asked to forgo pay to help the airline's financial difficulties, and the spectre of redundancy stalking the pilot force of several UK airlines.Whilst we await resolution, or at least clarification of these important issues, life goes on. In this edition of The Log we have a provocative article on gender, and a feature on the sports and recreational flying that some of our members enjoy.
