Whether we like it or not, the vast majority of things we do in a cockpit are recorded nowadays, be that via direct electronic feeds to a digital device or the recording of all the conversations and noises that go on in our 'office'. But why? We are all aware of the need for a crash-resistant device that investigators can use to piece together the status and behaviour of an aircraft immediately prior to an accident or incident but it is becoming more and more evident that data from non-accident situations can be extremely useful as well.
