When British Airways announced a new direct service to Costa Rica, I had to look at a map to find it - sandwiched between Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the south. Having discovered that most of the country is covered in rainforest, largely unspoilt by tourism and blessed with interesting wildlife, my wife and I decided this was one introductory offer we couldn't refuse, and recruited two friends to join us.
