Passive roadside safety has been designed to protect drivers in collision with roadside objects. One fifth of fatal car accidents involve these objects, so they are now designed to absorb less energy than the current steel or concrete columns, to prevent the vehicle stopping with such sudden, and potentially fatal, force. The day's demonstration, organised by The Passive Revolution, took place at the Nuneaton MIRA (Motor Industries Research Association) test centre.
