All local authorities are under pressure to reduce their revenue budgets and as a result there is a focus on energy and carbon consumption. Authorities are rightly looking at what can be achieved in terms of reducing their street lighting energy and carbon footprint. As we know, a variety of options is open to them, ranging from a move to more energy-efficient light sources such as LEDs, through to adaptive lighting techniques including dimming, trimming and part-night lighting applications through a suitable control system. Whether the authority is considering just one of these approaches or a combination of them to achieve their aims, they must find funding for the work.
