THE MEDIUM AND LONG-TERM EFFECTS OF A PALLIATIVE CARE TEAM ON MORTALITY, COST, DISPOSITION AND UTILIZATION IN A LARGE NON-PROFIT COMMUNITY TEACHING HOSPITAL

Preliminary results revealed that the intervention decreased the likelihood of hospitalization (OR 0.85, p<.01) and average length of stay (OR 0.80, p<.05) over the 1 year follow-up period.These findings suggest that use of inpatient PCTs decreases hospital utilization of this vulnerable population as they near the end-of-life.
