WITHIN-FAMILY DIFFERENCES IN MATERNAL FAVORITISM AMONG ASIAN, BLACK, LATINO AND WHITE FAMILIES: A QUALITATIVE STUDY

Cornell University, Ithaca, NY In this paper, we use qualitative data from a subsample of 40 families from the Within-Family Differences Study-I (WFDS) to compare patterns of maternal favoritism among Asian, Black, Latino, and White families.In contrast to earlier work using the WFDS, in which we compared only Black and White mothers' patterns of favoritism, in the present paper we expand this line of work to include Latino and Asian families.
