The Irish Code of Practice (COP) for Fire Detection and Alarm Systems for Buildings was first issued in 1989. It was an excellent document that provided a sound basis for the design and installation of such systems. However, there have been significant changes both in the technology of the systems themselves and also in the design, construction and use of buildings today. Some three years ago, it was decided that the document should be revised and updated.
