The Design Build Finance and Operate (DBFO) 2 project, the largest highway project undertaken to date in Northern Ireland, is now approaching completion stage with the Beechill to Cloghogue section recently opening, some five months ahead of programme, writes Tony McAllisterrnThe total project, awarded to Amey Lagan Roads Ltd in December 2007 by DRD (Nl) Roads Service has two very different but equally important delivery requirements:rn1. over a three-year construction period, the provision of 40km of new dual two-lane carriageway as well as maintaining 85km of existing road during the construction period; and,rn2. on completion of the new works, the maintenance of the complete 125km for a further period of 27 years.
