The island of Ireland has one of the best offshore wind energy resources on the planet. In challenging global economic times, strong and counter-cyclical investment strategies are needed to stimulate economic growth and sustainable prosperity. Today, there is a strong commitment to progressive strategies to develop offshore wind generation within the EU as a cornerstone of Europe's economic future.Between our island's eastern shoreline and our neighbouring island's western shoreline, stretching from North West Scotland to South West England, the evidence of this future is now fast unfolding with 420MW of offshore wind power generation already in production, an additional 520MW in construction and a further robust pipeline of 518W1W fully consented and soon to achieve financial close. This impressive near-future reality of 2,200M W represents an equally impressive financial investment of over €8bn.
