CEI Collins Engineers Ltd is an engineering consultancy that has the specialist capability to inspect structures underwater utilising experienced engineer divers. Collins embarked on a knowledge transfer partnership (KTP) in collaboration with Queen's University, Belfast with the goal of researching underwater imaging and investigation techniques as well as broadening their capability in the field. KTPs are part of a UK government initiative to promote innovation, help disseminate academic expertise into the commercial environment and in turn aid the growth of businesses and the economy. This project is part-funded by the Technology Strategy Board and Invest Nl and involves extensive research into the current technologies available in the market. Areas of potential development were identified for Collins and explored within the set timeframe determined at the outset of the project.
