Cutting-edge research activities across the spectrum of the engineering sciences were showcased at the recent College of Engineering and Informatics Research Day at NUI Galway. This year's event was a joint conference between NUI Galway and University of Limerick, with over 170 high-quality poster papers presented by research students from both universities. As noted by Dr Peter Corcoran, vice dean for research at NUI Galway: "Engineering research is often ignored by the mainstream media, yet it underlies everything in our modern society. The Research Day helps us realise how important and far reaching the role of the engineer is in society."
