The provision of the waste water treatment plant accommodates demand from tourism, housing, commercial, industrial and recreational developments in Sligo, together with the provision of a sludge reception facility for the treatment of all sewage sludge within the County. It also fulfills the council's statutory obligation under the EU Directive 91/271/EEC.
