Sligo Port anchors local economy

While the significance of the port in national terms is relatively low, it remains important in the local and regional economy, supporting local industry and providing a sustainable transport mode for imports and exports. The port currently handles approximately 26 commercial ships per annum. Imports include coal, fishmeal and timber with scrap being exported. Ships of 3,500 tonnes, 100m and with a draft of 5.2m can be accommodated but being a tidal port, the movement of vessels is dependent on the tides.
