Have you ever noticed how microwaveable ready meals that look so attractive on the box always seem to come out either undercooked in the middle or burnt at the edges, or both? This mostly happens because few people know exactly what power and time settings to use to cook each meal to perfection. It is even harder — in fact, for many of us, virtually impossible — to programme ovens to undertake complex sequences like defrosting, cooking, and grilling. The result is that most people are reluctant to use their microwaves for anything other than defrosting food or rustling up the odd jacket potato.
