Whether it's aerospace, automotive or general engineering, the advanced engineering sector makes a significant contribution to the UK's economy, accounting for around 13 per cent of its GDP in 2007.rnMuch of this success is generated by overseas business, with exports of goods and services from the sector exceeding ￡109 billion in 2007.rn"The UK advanced engineering sector benefits from skilled people, new technologies and excellent R&D transfer between academia and business," says Margaret Porteous, Director of Advanced Engineering at UK Trade & Investment. "UK companies are well respected around the world and do particularly well where they have focussed in a specific field."
