Smart metering and the creation of a smart grid in the UK are seen as important developments to our critical national infrastructure, enabling greater efficiency in the energy industry and more accurate bills, as well as the potential to balance the demand for electricity with the use of renewable energy.rnThe nationwide roll-out of smart meters, set to be complete by 2020, will be driven by three factors: the Carbon Reduce targets set out in European legislation for the UK; utilities working in more efficient ways to read meters; and consumers making informed choices on how to use and save energy.
