User-friendly technology needs to be developed to help older people access modem banking methods, argue the researchers behind a new project.rnA team from Newcastle and York universities is working with Barclays Bank to help the nearly 2.4 million people in Britain aged 80 and over to become more comfortable with digital banking.rnTheir aim will be to develop assistive technology for those who are uneasy with chip-and-pin cards and internet banking. Attention will also be given to the six per cent of people aged 85 and over who do not have a traditional bank account.rnMany older people who do not have a bank account have a PostrnOffice account that allows pensioners to withdraw money from a staff member at the counter, said project leader Andrew Monk, a researcher in human computer interaction at York.
