A computer modelling system able to accurately identify areas of high radiation has been used to complete an 18-month characterisation project at the Sellafield nuclear site.rnThe N-Visage technology, funded by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) and developed by REACT Engineering, was used by site engineers to predict potential sources of radiation in the plant's shear cell, where fuel is sheared prior to being dissolved.rnThe team gathered information about the geometry of the facility using a 3D laser scanner to produce a high-resolution image similar to that of a black-and-white photograph.
