Industrial revolution

There is nowhere in the UK that the nation's manufacturing revival will be more warmly welcomed than in the Midlands. The region symbolises the enduring power of engineering and production, retaining a robust manufacturing sector through several recessions and what proved, with hindsight, to be an unwisely heavy tilting of the UK's economy towards the service industries. Despite several high-profile plant closures manufacturing never left the Midlands, and on 6-7 April the sector will gather at the NEC in Birmingham for Midlands Design and Manufacturing 2011 with a deserved sense of renewed optimism.
