SKF has upgraded and expanded its Explorer range of self-aligning roller bearings, which is suitable for applications such as mining and quarrying, materials handling, marine, offshore and manufacturing — including those where there are high levels of contamination. The improvements made to the strength of the SKF Explorer range are claimed to have come about through the use of a heat-treatment process for the hardening of bearing steel that features a lower-temperature processing stage. The steel features a finer microstructure and has good dimensional stability and structural strength — even in environments with high contamination levels or where there is insufficient lubrication.
