VW working with HP's Metal Jet on mass production of car parts

German car giant Volkswagen has revealed plans to use HP's Metal Jet 3D printing process for the mass production of a number of automotive components.The company said it had been working closely on the technology with both HP and component manufacturer GKN Powder Metallurgy and presented the process for the first time at the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) in Chicago.The process produces high-quality metallic components layer-by-layer by jetting a stainless-steel powder and binding agent, which is then 'sintered' in a furnace.
