Nuclear accident liability will rise sevenfold for UK operators

Liability for public compensation in the event of a serious accident at a nuclear power plant will rise from £140m to €1.2bn (£1bn) - a seven-fold rise - under proposals put forward for consultation by the energy and climate department (DECC). The consultation comes alongside another on managing the UK's weapons-grade plutonium stocks to lower risks from radiation, proliferation and terrorism.
