Property giant signs green electricity deal

The UK's largest commercial property company has committed to sourcing 100% of its electricity from renewable sources in all of its buildings from April 2016. Land Securities, which owns and manages more than 26,000,000 square feet of commercial property in the UK, announced in October it had signed a new contract with renewable electricity purchaser SmartestEnergy. Land Securities said its contract with SmartestEnergy, which will have to deliver 165,000 megawatt hours of electricity per year, was procured "at no additional cost" compared with its current arrangement. The property firm decided to buy renewable electricity from SmartestEnergy to secure energy for its customers "at a competitive price and with great service levels", it says.
