Robert Ash is professor of economics with special reference to China and Taiwan in the department of economics and the Centre for Financial and Management Studies, and director of the Taiwan studies programme, at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. Elizabeth C. Brotherton, is associate professor of Asian art at the State University of New York at New Paltz. Her research interests focus on the relationship between painting and poetry, on which she has published articles in Artibus Asiae and Archives of Asian Art.
