摘要

In aluminum-silicon alloys, failure to control the level of iron may result in the formation of complex intermetallic compounds during solidification of the casting. The occurrence of such phases adversely affects the mechanical properties (particularly ductility) of the cast components. The iron-rich compounds commonly found in aluminum-silicon alloys include the platelets of β-FeAlSi and the Chinese script particles of α-FeAlSi. The reduction in duc-lility of the alloy is attributed to the presence of β-FeAlSi in the microstructure.
