West African can plant warts for approvals

Angola's first beverage can plant could be running in September, provided that the project gets rubber stamped by the government. rnLocated near Luanda, capital of the West African republic, the plant is being funded by Nampak Bevcan, which is waiting on recently-appointed prime minister Antonio Paulo Kassoma's council of ministers to approve the project. rnNampak Bevcan has been shipping tinplate drinks cans from its South African plants to brewing and soft drinks customers in Angola for a number of years. The new plant at Viana, on an industrial estate near Luanda, is expected to cost US$88 million and have capacity to make 700 million tinplate cans a year for brewers including SABMiller and soft drinks firms such as Coca-Cola Bottling, which is building a new filling plant at Cacuaco.
