" In our previous articles we have covered all of the mechanics and controls of running a printing press, including the effects of the coating operation. Now we are getting down to the final two important areas - tools to help identify and control the process, and the necessary skill set. rnThere are some very good tools available to help a press crew take away the human element while printing a good impression. One of these is the spec-trophotometer. It is a photometer, which is a device used for measuring light intensity, and is used in this application to measure light intensity as a function of the colour, or more specifically, the wavelength oflight.
