Tinplate excluded from Indian certification

India's canmaking lobby succeeded in excluding tinplate from a list of steel products that had to be certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards. rnThe Metal Containers Manufacturers Association of India rn(MCMAI) opposed the regulation, since the annual marking and processing fee of imported tinplate would have raised its overall cost by two percent, while the scrapping of non-certified tinplate would have resulted in estimated losses of more than US$40m.
