Torrent of innovation

The washing systems used on D&I beverage can lines to clean and prime the containers in advance of their decoration have not changed significantly in their design over the years. But a collaborative project between can-maker Rexam and equipment supplier Greenbank Technology promises to deliver what is described as a new generation of washer that will offer savings in water consumption, chemical use and energy. Called Torrent One, it is a completely new venture for UK-based Greenbank which until now has specialised in the manufacture of dryers, inside-bake ovens and pin ovens for curing the coatings and inks on manufacturing lines in the two- and three-piece canmaking industry, with a significant market share of the new projects in Europe and the rest of the world.
