There's an opportunity today for can-makers and their food processing customers to benefit from the nation's ongoing fiscal problems, even if that might sound a bit distasteful. Regardless of the economy, Americans will still be eating. The government will spend hundreds of billions of dollars buying food this year -food stamps, food banks and school lunches are its most visible programmes -but a tightening budget means spending less to get more. While it's certainly the largest consumer, the government isn't the only one stretching a food budget.
