Once familiar for their use in displays and signals, light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are increasingly being applied in higher outputs for the illumination of industrial facilities such as can-making plants.Compared with tungsten, plasma or gas lamps, LEDs are appealing for their lower power consumption and cooler operation.LEDs emit light with solid-state electroluminescence, as opposed to incandescent bulbs or fluorescent tubes, and with a small footprint, they offer greater resistance to shock and vibration, eliminate vapour issues, and have a longer life span.
