Thai Union forges Morocco partnership

Canned tuna giant Thai Union Frozen Products has started a partnership with Moroccan sardine cannery Oceamic Laayoune, reports Undercurrent News. The facility at Laayoune on the north-west African coast will co-pack sardines in cans for sale on the European market under the John West and Parmentier brands, owned by Thai Union's MW Brands business. Oceamic Laayoune, which is owned by Sarma Food, says the collaboration with Thai Union will be a "long-term business partnership, and maybe the beginning of a joint venture". MW Brands, which is based in Paris, France, owns the European canned fish brands John West, Petit Navire, Parmentier and Mareblu. Until recently, the company bought sardines from Morocco and processed them at its Peniche factory in Portugal.
