Coca-Cola and SABMiller join forces in Africa

Anew Coca-Cola filling giant with sales of almost US$5 billion is being created to supply south and east Africa with the merger of soft drinks operations from Coca-Cola, brewing giant SABMiller, and the owners of Coca-Cola Sabco. The new bottler, Coca-Cola Beverages Africa, will supply 12 countries, accounting for about two-fifths of all Coca-Cola beverage volumes in Africa. With more than 30 bottling plants and around 14,000 employees, it will be the largest Coca-Cola bottler on the continent. Following the completion of the proposed merger SABMiller will own 57.0 percent of Coca-Cola Beverage Africa. Gutsche Family Investments (owners of Coca-Cola Sabco) will own 31.7 percent, and The Coca-Cola Company 11.3 percent.
