The popular Scottish soft drink Irn-Bru will contain 'substantially' less sugar to help minimise the financial impact on its manufacturer AG Ban-when the UK government's tax on sweetened fizzy drinks is introduced in 2018. Although there is already a sugar-free version of Irn-Bru, AG Barr said the reformulation would reduce the impact of the tax on the company, which also produces drinks such as Lucozade, Snapple and Tizer. A330ml can of sugar-sweetened Irn-Bru reportedly contains 34 grams of sugar, or more than eight teaspoons. This is not as much as some carbonated soft drinks but is still 42 percent more than the World Health Organisation daily maximum of 24g for an adult.
