Food safety certification for PATIN

Guangzhou Pacific Tinplate Co Ltd (PATIN), the joint venture between Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC) and other Japanese and Chinese partners, has been certified ISO 22000 for food safety management. Commissioned in 1997 in China's Guangdong province, PATIN's mill has capacity to produce 200,000 tonnes of tinplate a year. It is the first company in the NSSMC group that has obtained the certification. "In China, the growth of personal consumption is expected to boost the demands for food cans and powdered milk cans," said a PATIN press release. "Moreover, consumers' needs for 'safe foods' are growing, making the product control that container and material manufacturers are required to implement stricter with the entire food supply chain considered."
