Five-litre beer kegs using polyester-laminated steel have been produced fora Dutch brewer in a collaboration between Tata Steel and German canmaker Kleemann. Uiltje Brewing Company in Haarlem - best known for its Bird of Prey IPA -adopted the steelmaker's Protact laminated packaging steel for its popular beer. Following Uiltje's acquisition by Dutch family brewer Swinkels, the opportunity arose to fill the five-litre beer kegs with Bird of Prey IPA at the Swinkels factory. The three-piece welded beer keg using Protact was developed with German canmaker Kleemann, based at Karlstein am Main, Bavaria in Germany and was the result of a joint effort from Tata Steel's cross-functional new product development (NPD) teams building on established customer relationships. Steel for the body of the keg was produced at Tata's IJmuiden plant in the Netherlands and laminated at its Duffel plant in Belgium. Steel forthe keg ends was produced at Tata's Port Talbot mill in the UK and manufactured at its nearby Trostre facility.
