In 2002, DS Containers (DSC) was created by a Japanese-American partnership involving Japan's Daiwa Can and the late Bill Smith Sr, a canmaking veteran with over 50 years of experience, with the aim of bringing new technology to the aerosol can business in the US. At the time, the hi-tech DSC plant in Batavia, Illinois, was the first in the world to produce deep-drawn two-piece aerosol cans using polymer-coated steel - and the first in the US built by a Japanese company.
