Rasselstein offers Cr-free tinplate

New tinplate capacity is being installed at Thyssenkrupp Rasselstein's mill at Andernach in Germany which features its own alternative to chromium-free passivation (CFPA). The new process minimises the growth of tin oxide on the surface of tinplate during storage and is said to be fully compliant with both EU and US food contact regulations for coated and uncoated tinplate. The product, which according to Rasselstein is already being offered to customers, is claimed to provide the same functionality as traditional chromium-based passivation, while making the tinplate more amenable for lacquer coating and decoration.
