Del Monte Pacific to close US canneries

A number of canning plants will be closed and others sold in the US by a subsidiary of Del Monte Pacific as part of a restructuring plan that is intended to maintain its competitiveness. The Del Monte Foods plants to be closed are located at Sleepy Eye, Minnesota and Mendota, Illinois, where production will cease at the end of the current pack season. The Sleepy Eye plant produces the largest volume of packaged peas and corn for Del Monte Foods, while Mendota handles fresh products, including peas, peas and carrots, cream-style corn, whole kernel corn, mixed vegetables, corn specialities and lima beans.
