Set within the Amiri Diwan Quarter, the Qatar National Archive and neighbouring Msheireb Prayer Ground are two new civic places in Doha. The 32,000m~2 archive forms a prominent landmark consisting of a central block of nine storeys and a public entrance, it overlooks the prayer ground, an open urban landscape for religious festivities. The two are part of the wider 31 ha redevelopment, Msheireb Downtown Doha, which provides a new urban core of mixed uses. It is shaded, pedestrian- friendly and develops a new contemporary architectural language for Qatar. The masterplan for the new quarter was drawn up by Arup with AECOM and Allies and Morrison.
