The lives of unsung black architects underscore the challenge of diversification

Few people will have heard of Henry Wilcots. Yet Wilcots, a distinguished African-American architect, was one of Louis Kahn's closest collaborators, working on the National Assembly in Dhaka for 20 years. After Kahn's death in 1974, Wilcots was responsible for completing the project. He is still regarded as the pre-eminent authority on its architecture, and is regularly consulted on it by the Bangladeshi Government.
