All this concern and no action ('Women in architecture survey 2017: pay gap widens between male and female architects', AJ 09.02.17). In fact we are going backwards. The legislation is in place, we just need to enact it. There is no glass ceiling - it is solid concrete. It is difficult for women to acknowledge that they are being discriminated against and, by the time they realise how badly they have been shafted, it is all too late. It is time the ARB and the RIBA took this matter seriously instead of whitewashing and making excuses. No practice should be chartered without demonstrating compliance with the law. An equal opportunities policy is not worth the paper it is written on without genuine care, concern and action.
