Jessica Hemmings has collated a lavishly illustrated overview of current practice and thinking around knitting with contributions from a variety of fields. The range of perspectives from which knitting is considered includes historical, critical, theoretical, and literary contexts, both European and South African, as well as artistic practice representing many nationalities. The project of the book is to overturn the received notion of knit as domestic, feminine, and functional and to introduce knitting as a suitable medium for the expression of contemporary ideas.
