Memories of Magadalena

I knew Magdalena Abakanowicz for four decades, although intensity of this relationship varied over time. It all started at the beginning of the 1970s when I was a student at the Academy of Arts in Poznari In Poland and, among others, I took lessons at her studio. After my graduation in 1977, Abakanowicz offered me a position as an assistant in her studio, which she led since the mid-1960s. I accepted her proposition with some surprise and a dose of anxiety whether I would be able to cope with such a tremendous responsibility. Some people can only listen to stories about her outstanding personality and exceptional authority; I had an opportunity to stay in her close circle as a student, as her studio assistant and as a friend.
