Critical Review of Textile Finishing Equipment

In all areas of technology, progress occurs by two paths. One is an evolutionary path, consisting of small changes or modifications to existing equipment and processes. The other path is the inspirational path of truly new and innovative machines and processes. Textile finishing is no exception to this general rule. Among the equipment and processes presented at ITMA '99 in Paris, both types of progress were evident. However, evolutionary progress is generally less uncertain from a business standpoint, and so examples of incremental changes are much more numerous. Despite the fewer number of novel products shown, some very interesting and potentially very important processes were displayed. The review will be separated by process categories and includes an overall trend discussion.
